THE STORY

Kar Kraft No. 1843, this Wimbledon White 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback is an unrestored, two-owner example with an impressive pedigree that begins with its delivery to Tom Edwards Ford Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky. Built by Ford performance contractor Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan, to homologate the radical new 429 CI “Semi Hemi” V-8 engine for NASCAR racing, the Boss 429 incorporated modified front suspension to accommodate the massive powerplant, which also required relocating the battery to the trunk.

All were equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes, Competition Suspension with a rear sway bar, color-keyed racing mirrors, a functional front spoiler, a driver-operated hood scoop, an engine oil cooler, a close ratio 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.91:1 Traction-Lok differential. Boss 429 fender decals, chromed Magnum 500 wheels with Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 tires, the Deluxe Décor interior group with Deluxe seat belts and warning light, and an AM radio further distinguished the “Boss Nine.”

This sterling example is offered with an odometer reading of 43,685 miles, a figure backed by its Pennsylvania title indicating actual miles. Powered by the T-Code version of the Boss 429 engine, its impressive originality includes the original sheet metal, interior and Carlite dated glass, factory stampings and markings and original and very hard–to-find Boss 429 parts including the carburetor, KKX spindles, rear sway bar, battery cables and tray, trunk mat and flat back starter solenoid; even the tape originally installed at Kar Kraft to secure the battery cables remains in place.

The car recently received a comprehensive tune-up by marque specialist Rick Parker, with work including new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, air cleaner, lube, oil and filter, a rebuild of the Ford factory shifter assembly and a valve adjustment. Its impressive documentation runs the entire spectrum, including the window sticker and original warranty guide, the owner’s manual and supplementary manual, a Boss 429 dealer brochure, Ford Boss 429 period consumer letters, copies of previous registrations, service receipts, the original keys and spare set of reproductions, Kar Kraft production number sheet and a framed Elite Marti Report. This fabulous Boss 429 Fastback is listed in Boss authority Steve Strange’s Boss 429 Registry, in which it is described by Strange himself as one of the most original Boss 429s in existence—high praise indeed for a top-tier legend of the classic muscle car era.
